Data breaches, privacy violations and network security invasions are no longer just the problem of big business. It is estimated that 1 in 3 mid-sized businesses—of all types, including offices, service firms, distributors and manufacturers—will be victims of targeted cyber-attacks.
Some of the most notorious cyber scams start with one of your employees opening an innocent-looking email under the guise that it’s from your bank or another trusted source.
Too many mid-sized businesses do not recognize how much cyber risk they have, or they mistakenly believe their IT provider will protect them in the event of an attack. If you conduct any business online, store sensitive data on a network, or as we saw, just open an email, you are vulnerable to a cyber-attack. Unfortunately, it is that simple.
Cyber Insurance should be part of your overall risk management and security practices in 2015.
If you’re a victim of an attack, Cyber Insurance can protect you from liability when your customer’s sensitive data is exposed. Cyber Insurance can cover the significant costs you will suffer as a victim of cyber extortion or data loss. More importantly, most Cyber Insurance programs are affordable and will provide you with resources to enhance your businesses overall cyber security.

This was the fourth year that Alper collaborated with insurance carrier Chubb to prepare 52 Thanksgiving turkeys and dinner gift baskets to benefit families from local non-profits Orchard Village and New Hope Center. On November 21st, Alper employees played Santa for the children of George Leland Elementary School in Chicago’s Austin neighborhood. For the 2013-2014 flu season, several new vaccines will be offered for the first time, although their availability may be limited. Previously, when picking a vaccine, you could choose between a shot containing three dead virus strains and a nasal spray containing live, weakened virus strains. In addition to those options, this year’s offerings include a new four-strain vaccine; a high-dose flu shot; two egg-free versions; and a shot that does not go beneath the skin.
October is Breast Cancer Awareness month. Alper Services has been active with the Susan G. Komen organization this year, as we raced for the cure in May and created more than 130 key chains as reminders of the importance of regular mammograms in June. Knowing the facts about this disease is key to early detection and prompt treatment.
It’s back to school time, and Alper Services said goodbye to our summer intern Dejha Cocroft, after enjoying a second successful year as an internship sponsor for the Joseph A. Forgione Development School for Youth (DSY) through The All Stars Project of Chicago. DSY is a leadership-training program for high school students who express a desire to be leaders amongst their peers. It partners them with corporations to provide summer internships.
We sat down with Dejha to get her thoughts about her experience as an intern at Alper Services.
