This magnificent sculpture was created by renowned Mexico City artist, Leonardo Nierman. The full-size 7-ton, 25' high sculpture is located between the Kennedy Expressway and the Ohio Interchange, near downtown Chicago.
Chicago Gateway Green spearheaded the International Sculpture Exchange Program, in conjunction with the Chicago Sister Cities International and the City of Chicago Public Art Program, and brought the "Flame" to Chicago. Hyatt Hotels sponsors the maintenance and beautification of the site.
Howard Alper is a close personal friend of Leonardo Nierman, which is how we became involved in this project. Leonardo Nierman was born in Mexico City, and has played a leading role in modern Mexican art. His work has been in exhibitions all over the world, and he is now displayed in numerous museums in Italy, Australia, Spain, Japan, and Mexico. |
