Our Alper Serves line-up of volunteer events has filled up our autumn calendar! Alper Serves are half day, Alper-sponsored volunteer projects that we invite our Team to partake in each year. We kicked things off with the Austin Special Chicago Tootsie Roll Drive on Friday, September 21st. Several teams of Alper volutneers took to the Mag Mile and the Loop to collect donations with the Knights of Columbus in exchange for tootsie rolls. The rain held out, and we were able to collect over $500 for the great work that Austin Special Chicago does to meet the needs of individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities in our community.
We weren’t as lucky, weather-wise, on September 24th when Alper volunteers met at the Idlewild Country Club in Flossmoor to help New Star with their annual golf outing. In spite of the intermittent sprinkles, volunteers enjoyed their time interacting with golfers on the green where they ran the hole-in-one game and sold raffle tickets. New Star provides opportunities to people with disabilities to live a more enriched and independent life.
On Wednesday, October 17th, Alper Team Members hosted bingo for the residents of Lutheran Home in Arlington Heights. Lutheran Home is a non-profit senior living community which also specializes in short-term rehabilitation, memory care and assisted living.
Alper volunteers made the trip north to Lambs Farm on Tuesday, October 23rd to help in the Magnolia Cafe and Bakery. They spent an afternoon with residents weighing and packaging shortbread almond crescent cookies for special delivery. Lambs Farm helps individuals with developmental disabilities lead productive and happy lives.
